My parents are gone, but I still have their things. A plate, a chair, a matchbook, a sweater, an old cell phone. Something of them lives on in this stuff. Send a picture of an object and tell me what it does to you and how it makes you feel about your mom and dad, dead or alive. Then go clean up your room. Thank you
My Mom does most of the cooking. But almost every morning my Dad makes oatmeal. My Mom doesn’t make the oatmeal too often because she invariably lets it bubble over or she forgets about it and burns the pan. It makes my Dad crazy. Usually she scrubs the pan until it’s clean. Sometimes when my Dad finishes eating the oatmeal, he leaves the pan in the sink and doesn’t put water in it to soak. That gets to her. Once when she really burnt the pan, I gave them mine. I almost felt that it saved them from divorce. Sometimes I think the oatmeal is analogous to their marriage. It is constant. They eat it every day. But there are little lumps and boiling over moments along the way.
